John and I have traveled to Mitsuwa just to get some baked goods and we both can never get enough of them. Each of these treats cost about $2.00 and they make it right in front of you so it is fresh. We chose one with red bean paste and egg cream filling for the other.

I cannot believe that I turned 24 this past weekend. Where did all these years ago?

John took me out to eat at Mantra, an Indian restaurant located in Paramus, New Jersey. Food was great!! We started off with the shrimp appetizer and samosas (fried pastry shell which consists of various fillings such as potatoes, onions, peas, meat, etc). John ordered the spicy lamb (the most spicy dish on the menu) while I ordered the tandoori mixed grill (chicken, lamb, sausage, and shrimp). Tandoori is definitely a taste that I am not used to. Very exotic to me!

Then John surprised me with a small cake with assorted fruits, from Tous Les Jours, a Korean bakery. They tasted exactly the same as Chinese birthday cakes- very spongy with soft frosting. What’s great about these cakes is that the frosting is not as sweet as American cakes. It’s very fluffy like whipped cream. Thanks John! ūüôā

The next day, my parents wanted to take me out to eat for my birthday. So we decided to go to Dai Wah Yummy City, located in Brooklyn. We ordered: mixed vegetables with chicken, lobster, sizzling chicken, bok choy, and fried fish with string beans. This is also a great Chinese restaurant. And their lobster wasn’t scrawny at all.

Got to eat lots and felt extremely gluttonous over the weekend. ūüôā

This was my first meal at Five Guys, a restaurant chain that originated in Arlington, Virginia. The whole establishment is decorated with large quotes from various publications stating how good the burgers and fries are. My expectations are already heightened the moment I walk into Five Guys.

Cindy and I both ordered the cheeseburger with different toppings that match our individual taste buds. I, of course had mine with: hot sauce,¬†jalape√Īos, tomatoes, and mayo. Cindy had hers with barbecue sauce, grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato. I did not want to add too many toppings, for the fear of having a mushy burger.

The burgers tasted like a homemade burger that you would grill outside in the park. I never had a burger well done but at Five Guys, you have no choice. Well done burgers were good and had a nice flavor to it without it being extremely juicy. The cajun fries we had were heavily seasoned. I am going to order regular fries the next time I go. They were good none the less. They also had a sign up stating that their french fries are cooked in pure, no cholesterol peanut oil.

Oh, did I mention there are complimentary open boxes of roasted peanuts everywhere in the restaurant? Feel free to help yourself.

After work, I decided to visit John and as usual, I didn’t have the time to grab lunch or dinner before I went. So, there is this neat catering place in his neighborhood and I got two of these items under 10 bucks!

The first one was the spicy bulgogi (Korean dish which consists of marinated beef) and the second one I picked was jap chae (Korean dish made of cellophane noodles). They were both average…I didn’t care; as long as I had food in my stomach.

It was more than enough food for me that I had leftovers. The store had a variety of Korean dishes that were fresh and wrapped on the day of. Always make sure you have cash on you…you never know when you’re going to need it.

John and I decided to have a cheese pizza pie delivered to his house in Palisades Park, New York. After I consumed a full slice, I asked John, “Is this the best Jersey has got to offer in terms of pizza?” His reply was, “Everyone says their pizza is great.”
.
Well, I highly disagree! The crust was so hard and dry, it was unbearable to eat. I’m not much of a crust person but I would like to eat the whole darn thing if I’m hungry. I do not recommend unless you are in the area and desperate for anything that’s opened late at night.
.
Well, at that point, I was glad I lived in New York City because that’s where you should go for an awesome slice of pizza. ūüôā

While shopping around H Mart, a Korean grocery store, I decided to try some baked goods from Tous Les Jours, which was located inside the market. Tous Les Jours, which means “Everyday,” in French, is a French-Asian bakery and is also a chain bakery.

What I enjoyed most about Korean bakeries is that it’s not as greasy as some of the goods that you may find in Chinese bakeries. The quality is also very wholesome and delicious, but I thought it was a little expensive. John and I chose a strawberry pastry, a¬†sweet cream corn doughnut, and¬†a sandwich bun with blueberry cream cheese filling. These baked goods definitely make a great snack! I would love to go back for more.

My mom and I ate at a very rustic styled Korean restaurant in Palisades Park, NJ. I ordered the Fish Egg & Kimchi bimbimbop which came in a sizzling stone pot. It was very delicious and the stone pot cooked the fish eggs almost immediately upon contact. The kimchi was a huge highlight of the dish which was fermented perfectly.

Amazing. Although I throw that word around a lot on this blog, I wholeheartedly had wonderful time here. The food was great and the beers, exceptional.

Iron Hill Brewery is a brewery first and a restaurant second. All the beers are brewed in house and you could tell from drinking the beers. When asked for our drinks, I immediately ordered the 8 beer sampler which included all the house beers and 2 seasonal beers. The house beers were the Iron Hill Light Lager, Vienna Red Lager, Ironbound Ale, Abbey Dubbel, Pig Iron Porter, and the Raspberry Wheat. The seasonal beers I selected were Hefeweizen and the India Black Ale. The colors, aromas, and taste of the beer were all exceptional and had a great time drinking and trying all the different kinds.

Although they have a huge selection of food, we came a bit late so the menu changed after 10 PM. We had to select from the late night menu which consisted of upscale bar food, which we were okay with. Our appetizer was the buttermilk fried calamari which was very crispy and worked very well with lime zest dipping sauce.

Cindy had the Mediterranean Wrap which consisted of cucumbers, hummus, roasted red peppers, tomato, arugula, feta, and balsamic syrup in a spinach wrap. Very tasty and the cool cucumbers pops in your mouth for a very nice contrast to the other textures.

Finally, the Exotic Mushroom Pizza was hearth baked with truffle oil, sun-dried tomatoes, asiago, and mozzarella cheese. Very cheesy and earthy from the truffles on the pizza. Was hesitant in ordering a vegetarian pizza but was completely satisfied with my decision after the first bite.

If not for the food, please go for the beers!

I want to start this post off by saying that this place was pretty delicious. Ahgujjim is steamed fish in a spicy mixture with vegetables. The fish was very delicate and moist. The Galbijjim is steamed beef ribs which melted in my mouth in all of its fatty glory. (Jjim is put at the end of food names to indicate that it was steamed). the Bibimbop (mixed vegetables with rice) complimented the other dishes very well.

I washed it all down with a couple of glasses of Hite beer (very watery and sub par) and some Chumchurum Soju (which is alcohol from barley, sweet potatoes, rice, etc.) which is always a plus. After the meal was complete, we were given some sort of shaved pumpkin ice which tasted extremely weird. Very bad way to end a wonderful meal.

Ordered a pie to share with co-workers at work. I had to get ground beef because one of my co-workers did not eat pork products. I ordered up this concoction to make sure everyone was happy with the toppings. The pizza came out great. Linwood Pizza makes some great pizza!
